Ontario’s police watchdog is looking into a crash that left a 14-year-old driver seriously injured as police pursued him for speeding in Scarborough early Sunday morning, officials say.Â

At 8:45 a.m., º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøpolice said the SIU had invoked its mandate. The SIU is responsible for investigating incidents involving municipal, regional and provincial police officers.Â

A º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøpolice officer driving a marked police cruiser was pursuing the 14-year-old boy for speeding just before 1 a.m., according to early information from SIU . The boy’s vehicle collided with another vehicle at the intersection.Â
The teen was seriously injured in the collision and taken to hospital.Â
The other vehicle had three occupants, none of whom were seriously injured, according to the release. º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøpolice initially said three vehicles were involved in the crash, but the SIU said it only had information about two vehicles being involved.
º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøpolice have declined to provide further information, as the incident is now being investigated by the SIU.Â
