The º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøBlue Jays maintained their three-game lead in the American League East standings over the New York Yankees at the end of play Friday. The Tigers lost 8-2 to the Marlins and gave up ground on the Jays in the race for the league’s best record.
A lengthy absence would deal a big blow to the Tigers’ World Series hopes. Skubal had allowed one earned run over his previous 27 1/3 innings prior to Friday and had thrown seven scoreless innings in each of his last two starts.

Jays starter Chris Bassitt gave up just one run on two hits, striking out six over five innings as º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøbeat the Baltimore Orioles 6-1. The Yankees beat the Red Sox 4-1 in the first of a three-game series between the two AL East rivals. Aaron Judge hit his 362nd career homer to pass Joe DiMaggio on the Yankees’ all-time list.
