The trauma of the August shooting, has forced the Roy family into the city鈥檚 shelter system as they struggle to return to the apartment where he died.
A 16-year-old boy facing first-degree murder charges in the death of eight-year-old JahVai Roy made a brief appearance by video in an Ontario Court of Justice youth court on Monday.
It was the teen’s聽second court聽appearance听蝉颈苍肠别聽his arrest on Sept. 5. He cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.聽
Shots were fired outside Roy鈥檚 family home on聽, in Toronto鈥檚 Black Creek neighbourhood, around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 16.

JahVai was in bed at his mother鈥檚 side inside his family home on聽, in Toronto鈥檚 Black Creek neighbourhood, when he was hit by a stray bullet.
Gunfire had broken out around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 16. A bullet entered the window of the family’s second-floor unit.
JahVai died in hospital.
According to 海角社区官网police, the teen was arrested with a loaded gun that had been modified to fire automatically; he is facing five firearms charges, in addition to first-degree murder.聽
Investigators have not said whether the weapon was used in JahVai鈥檚 killing.
The boy, who appeared by video wearing a burgundy T-shirt, is being housed at the Roy McMurtry Youth Centre. He told the justice of the peace he understood the Zoom proceeding.
An agent for his lawyer told the court they鈥檙e waiting for disclosure in the case, which will return to court next month.
Two other teen boys, aged 17 and 18, remain wanted on Canada-wide warrants for first-degree murder.
