It’s not unusual for the baseball knowledge of Canadian fans to be disparaged in our hockey-mad nation.
After fans at Rogers Centre booed an Orioles’ pick-off attempt at first base聽 in the eighth inning, former Baltimore second baseman Brian Roberts made this observation about the crowd’s reaction.
鈥淪ometimes we had some major questions about the baseball IQ of some Canadians here and there. ... At times it felt like maybe ... they knew a little bit more about hockey than baseball,鈥 he said.

It鈥檚 not uncommon for fans across Major League Baseball to boo pickoff attempts against the home team’s base runners.
During the series finale between the two teams Sunday, Roberts apologized for his comments.

“I do want to apologize to 海角社区官网fans for something I said on the air the other day. Definitely never, ever meant to cause anyone to feel like I was disrespecting them at all. I have always enjoyed coming to Toronto, I’ve always enjoyed playing here, I told you that when we first got here,” Roberts said. “So I hope that they will accept my sincere apology.”
“That’s a good way for you to announce your candidacy for Prime Minister of Canada,” Orioles play-by-play commentator Kevin Brown joked before adding, “this is seriously one of our favourite cities to come to.”
