Metrolinx is asking for help in naming the first two tunnel boring machines for the new Ontario line.
The provincial transportation company announced the naming contest on Monday saying that riders will have a chance to suggest titles for the machines until June 23, at which point people will vote for their top choice. Winners of the contest will get a photo with the giant machines at the tunnel’s launch shaft.Â

Metrolinx ran a similar contest in 2021 that resulted in “Diggy Scardust” being the winning name for the Scarborough Subway Extension machine and “Rexy and Remy” winning for the two the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension machines.
The Ontario line broke ground on the launch shaft near Exhibition Station in November 2024, where the company has been waiting for the arrival of the boring machines manufactured in Germany.
The massive machines are white, with a red maple leaf in the middle.Â
