In 2024, Daily Bread received over 3.75 million visits — a historic high that marks a 26 per cent increase compared to the year prior and over 450 per cent more than pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
From January to March of this year, Daily Bread has had 903,350 client visits, which is approximately four times the number of visits in the same period in 2020.
Each dollar from Metallica’s donation will be used to provide one meal, meaning Daily Bread will be able to buy enough fresh fruits, vegetables, proteins and dairy to provide about 40,000 meals to the community.
This also isn’t the first time the rock group has made a significant donation to Daily Bread. In 2016, they played a special charity concert at The Opera House and donated all proceeds to the food bank. They also encouraged fans to bring non-perishable food items to the venue for donation.
Metallica played two sold on shows at the Rogers Centre on April 24, with opening acts from Pantera and Suicidal Tendencies, and April 26, with openers Limp Bizkit and Ice Nine Kills.
