A man has been charged with impaired driving after the driver of a vehicle careened off the road and struck three pedestrians walking on a North York sidewalk Sunday afternoon, leaving two people critically injured.Ìý
A man was driving south on Yonge Street whenÌýheÌýveered off the road and onto the sidewalk before hitting the pedestrians on the northwest corner of the intersection withÌý around 3:25 p.m., º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøpoliceÌýInsp. Dan Pravica told reporters at the scene.
All three pedestrians and the driver were sent to hospital.ÌýTwo of the pedestrians, a 60-year-old woman and 30-year-old man both suffered life-threatening injuries. The third pedestrian, a 29-year-old woman, was seriously injured, but her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police initially said a woman in her mid-20s to early 30s was in critical condition.
The driver stayed at the scene after the crash but was then sent to hospital with injuries that did not threaten his life, Pravica said.Ìý
A 74-year-old man is facing nine driving-related charges, includingÌýthree counts of driving with a blood-alcohol content level equal to or over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.
The collision wasn’t targeted or intentional, according to Pravica on Sunday,Ìýbut Ìýaround midnight that a man was arrested for impaired driving.Ìý
Police cordoned off areas around the Volvo, which sat near the sidewalk with it’s hood popped and the front bumper wrecked.Ìý
A few dozen local residents lingered around the scrum, wonderingÌýif Sunday’s collision too was targeted.Ìý
“It is quite understandable that it can easily bring back some sad and painful memories. I ask that for those people who are affected by this, even though it appears to be not related whatsoever or not in the same context, to seek professional help if you need it,” Pravica said referencing the 2018 attack.
