The driver of a vehicle was heading north on Erin Mills Parkway when they struck another vehicle that was going south and trying to make a left turn on Vista Boulevard. The first driver then lost control and collided into a pole, police said  on Monday.

Both the driver and passenger of the first vehicle were taken to hospital with serious injuries, where the passenger, a 20-year-old Mississauga man, later died from his injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle was not seriously injured, officers said. 

Investigators believe the speed of the first vehicle was a “primary factor” in the fatal collision.

Police charged a 22-year-old man from Mississauga with seven offences, including operation while impaired causing death (drugs), possession for the purpose of distributing, race a motor vehicle and fail to properly wear seatbelt.
