It was just before 7 p.m. Thursday when gunfire erupted on Parker Avenue in Richmond Hill.
Residents told the Star, the evening had started like any other, with neighbours greeting one another as they went about their nightly strolls or walked their dogs. Some had just returned from work.
Arlo Filazek was relaxing at home when he heard what he thought to be gunshots. 鈥淭wo seconds later,鈥 he rushed outside.
On the street, Filazek found a man who appeared to have been shot 鈥減oint blank.鈥 A man he later learned was the man鈥檚 brother wept over his body, while Filazek tried to perform CPR, 鈥渂ut he was already dead,” he said.
鈥淚t was traumatizing,鈥 Filazek said in an interview at his home on Friday. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been a shocking 24 hours, for sure.鈥
Police were called to Parker Avenue, between , for reports of gunfire at around 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Within minutes, police cruisers and ambulances had 鈥渇looded鈥 the residential street, said another neighbour, who asked the Star not to reveal her identity due to safety concerns.
鈥淚 went outside and all hell had broken loose,鈥 the woman said.
Responding officers found a man, identified Friday as 47-year-old Issam Saad, suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.
Police later said “at least” two suspects fled the area prior to their arrival. Both are at large.

In video of the incident, briefly circulated online and verified by the Star, a man can be seen running north on Parker Avenue before stumbling to the ground, where he lays motionless.
A few seconds later, another person, dressed in black, appears to approach the man from behind, pointing an unidentified object at his head. A light-coloured SUV stops on the road and picks up the man in black, before continuing northbound.
In the final moments of the footage, someone can be seen running to the victim鈥檚 side, stopping to stand over his body.
鈥淚 just feel bad for his brother, who had to watch that happen,鈥 Filazek said.
Speaking briefly to reporters on Thursday night, Const. James Dickson of York police said a burned out vehicle was located just a short drive south of Parker Avenue, near , shortly after the shooting. Investigators said they believe the vehicle to be directly connected to the incident, but declined further comment.

That night, Filazek spent hours at the local police station, relaying what he鈥檇 seen to investigators in the hopes it would help apprehend those responsible.
Nearly 24 hours later, however, no arrests have been made and police have yet to release suspect descriptions.
“Everyone’s pretty shocked and scared,” he said.
On Friday Parker Avenue remained cordoned off by police tape as investigators canvassed for witnesses and combed through the grass with metal detectors. On the road, a handful of evidence markers sat on the pavement alongside a green tarp.

鈥淲e don鈥檛 know the who, what, where, why,鈥 the woman, who asked for anonymity due to safety concerns with the suspects still at large, told the Star.
“Police haven’t told us anything yet,” she said.
鈥淚 just hope they鈥檙e caught soon.”
In a release issued Friday, investigators urged any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police, or anyone with security footage from the area at the time of the shooting, to come forward.
