Charges upgraded to first-degree murder for man accused of kidnapping, killing Markham woman

A man accused of killing a Markham woman and disposing of her remains in a garbage bin left along the side of a rural road north of Toronto, now faces a first-degree murder charge, the Star has learned.

The charge against Changlin Yang, 27, was upgraded from second-degree murder聽in the death of Ying Zhang, 57, of Markham, in Newmarket court last week, according to court records that reveal new details about the harrowing case.
