S&P/TSX composite up in late-morning trading, U.S. stock markets also higher
TORONTO - Canada’s main stock index was up in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the base metal and energy sectors, while U.S. stock markets also rose.

TORONTO - Canada’s main stock index was up in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the base metal and energy sectors, while U.S. stock markets also rose.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 58.64 points at 29,342.46.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 2.17 points at 45,836.39. The S&P 500 index was up 27.37 points at 6,611.66, while the Nasdaq composite was up 161.20 points at 22,302.30.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.43 cents US compared with 72.21 cents US on Friday.

The October crude oil contract was up 67 cents US at US$63.36 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$17.00 at US$3,703.40 an ounce.
