But Stakusic regained her momentum in the third set, scoring two breaks to clinch the victory.
Stakusic was set to face Emiliana Arango of Colombia in the quarterfinals later Friday.
The 20-year-old from Mississauga, Ont., advanced to her first quarterfinal at a WTA Tour-level event since last year’s Guadalajara Open. She also defeated Ostapenko, who was seeded No. 1, in the Round of 16 at that tournament.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Sept. 12, 2025.
Note to readers:This is a corrected story. A previous version incorrectly stated Stakusic will face either Tatjana Maria or Elsa Jacquemot in the quarterfinals. In fact, she will face Emiliana Arango.
