BOSTON (AP) — Yankees right-hander Luis Gil held the Boston Red Sox hitless for six innings on Friday night, leaving with his no-hitter intact before reliever Fernando Cruz gave up Nate Eaton’s home run in the seventh.

BOSTON (AP) — Yankees right-hander Luis Gil held the Boston Red Sox hitless for six innings on Friday night, leaving with his no-hitter intact before reliever Fernando Cruz gave up Nate Eaton’s home run in the seventh.
Gil walked four and struck out four while throwing 93 pitches, leaving after six with a 4-0 lead. He also had a balk and two wild pitches.
The reigning AL Rookie of the Year was 3-1 entering the game and he lowered his ERA to with a 2.83.

Cruz struck out Carlos Narváez to lead off the seventh before Eaton homered over the Green Monster to end the no-hit bid.
There has not been a no-hitter in the major leagues this season.
