PITTSBURGH (AP) — Andrew Heaney and four relievers combined on a four-hitter as the Pittsburgh Pirates edged Cincinnati 3-1 on Wednesday.
Heaney (3-3) allowed a run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts in five innings of work to win for the first time in nearly a month. Dennis Santana worked a perfect ninth for his fifth save as the Pirates took two of three from Cincinnati.
Henry Davis had two hits for Pittsburgh, including an RBI-single in the fourth off Brady Singer (5-3). The top pick in the 2021 draft also turned in a pair of big defensive plays, slapping a tag on Spencer Steer at home plate to end the sixth and throwing out Will Benson at second base in the seventh when Benson represented the tying run.
Bryan Reynolds drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Ke’Bryan Hayes doubled with one out in the eighth and scored on a run-scoring single by Adam Frazier as the Pirates won despite failing to score five runs for a 26th straight game, tying a Major League record.
Austin Hays had an RBI single for the Reds. Tyler Stephenson had Cincinnati’s only extra-base hit.
Singer gave up two runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts in five innings.
ORIOLES 8, BREWERS 4, 11 INNINGS
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Adley Rutschman hit a three-run homer to highlight Baltimore’s four-run outburst in the 11th inning as the Orioles snapped an eight-game skid by beating Milwaukee.
Baltimore ended its longest losing streak since August 2021, when it dropped 19 straight games. Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino earned his first win in his fifth game since taking over for who was fired Saturday.
Milwaukee had tied the game on Caleb Durbin’s two-out RBI single in the ninth against Félix Bautista, who was pitching on back-to-back days for the first time this year after missing the 2024 season due to
After Baltimore’s Ryan O’Hearn and Milwaukee’s Jackson Chourio hit RBI singles in the 10th, the Orioles broke through against Tyler Alexander (2-4) in the 11th.
Automatic runner Heston Kjerstad advanced to third on Ramón UrÃas’ infield single and scored on Jackson Holliday’s single to center. Rutschman followed with a drive over the left-field wall.
CUBS 2, MARLINS 1
MIAMI (AP) — Kyle Tucker had a homer among his three hits and knocked in the tiebreaking run with a single and fielding error by Miami in the eighth inning as Chicago beat the Marlins.
The NL Central-leading Cubs took two games of the three-game set against Miami after a walk-off loss on Monday and have won seven of their last nine games.
Chicago rookie Matt Shaw drew a leadoff walk against Marlins reliever Anthony Bender (1-3) in the eighth and stole second. Tucker’s second single advanced Shaw, who then sprinted home with the eventual game-winning run when Marlins left-fielder Kyle Stowers overran the ball.
Brad Keller (1-0) threw 1 1/3 innings of relief and earned his first win since 2023. Daniel Palencia worked a perfect ninth for his first save.
RAYS 8, ASTROS 4
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Yandy DÃaz hit a three-run homer, among Tampa Bay’s four home runs in the game, and the Rays beat Houston to win their three-game series.
DÃaz’s shot in the bottom of the eighth followed Josh Lowe and Brandon Lowe homering back-to-back in the fifth and Curtis Mead’s first of the season in the fourth.
All four homers were hit off Hunter Brown (6-3), who had allowed just two homers in his nine previous starts.
Taj Bradley (4-3), who gave up a two-run homer to Isaac Paredes in the first, went six innings, allowing just those two runs.
MARINERS 6, WHITE SOX 5
CHICAGO (AP) — Leody Taveras hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to put Seattle ahead and the Mariners topped Chicago for their fifth win in six games.
With Seattle trailing 5-4, Rowdy Tellez greeted reliever Mike Vasil (2-2) with a single. Taveras drove Vasil’s next pitch to the right-center bleachers for his second hit of the game.
Seattle’s Cal Raleigh slugged his 16th homer, tying the Yankees’ Aaron Judge for the AL lead, doubled and walked twice. Julio Rodriquez hit a three-run homer for the AL West-leading Mariners.
Chicago’s Lenyn Sosa and Joshua Palacios hit consecutive homers in the fourth. Tim Elko added his third homer in 10 games since being recalled from the minors.
Rookie Chase Meidroth had two hits and put Chicago ahead 5-4 in the seventh with an RBI single. The White Sox lost for the sixth time in seven games.
TIGERS 5, CARDINALS 1
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Spencer Torkelson had a pair of hits, walked twice and drove in a run to help the Detroit beat St. Louis. for the Tigers’ 15th win in its past 20 games.
Brant Hurter allowed one hit in three scoreless innings in his second career start, and Chase Lee (1-0) followed with two scoreless innings to earn his first major league win as the Tigers used six pitchers in a bullpen game.
Andre Pallante (4-3) allowed three runs and four hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings for his first loss at home since Sept. 10, 2024, against Cincinnati.
Willson Contreras had an RBI single to center field off Brenan Hanifee to score Victor Scott II in the sixth inning and cut Detroit’s lead to 3-1.
The Tigers added two runs in the eighth on Trey Sweeney’s sacrifice fly and Javier Báez’s RBI single.
In the fourth, Torkelson lined a double to the right-center field warning track that bounced off the glove of Jordan Walker to score Riley Greene and expand the Tigers’ lead to 2-0.
ROYALS 8, GIANTS 4
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Salvador Perez had three hits including a two-run homer, Bobby Witt Jr. and Maikel Garcia each had two hits and two RBIs, and Kansas City got their offense going in a victory over San Francisco.
The Royals had scored three runs or fewer in their previous seven games and were held to four runs or fewer in 42 of their first 50 games.
Kansas City led 3-1 in the top of the fourth when Perez hit an opposite field homer off Giants starter Logan Webb (5-4) with Witt aboard.
The Royals extended the lead to 8-2 in the fifth, when Drew Waters hit a leadoff double during a two-run inning.
Matt Chapman, Patrick Bailey and Heliot Ramos homered for San Francisco.
Ramos hit a two-run homer in the ninth off Lucas Erceg to cut the lead to 8-4.
Jonathan Bowlan (1-0) gave up one run on two hits in 1 1/3 innings in relief of opener Daniel Lynch IV, who walked three and gave up a hit in 1 2/3 innings.
Webb (5-4) gave up six runs (three earned) on 10 hits in four innings. The Giants’ ace struck out five and walked none.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Gavin Williams pitched six strong innings and José RamÃrez had three more hits to extend his hitting streak to 14 games as Cleveland beat Minnesota..
Steven Kwan was 3 for 5 with two doubles and Carlos Santana added his second home run of the day in the eighth inning as the Guardians snapped a five-game losing streak by earning a split on the day. Earlier Wednesday, the Twins won the completion of a suspended game .
Williams (4-2) finished with six strikeouts against two walks and two hits in six innings. He’s 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in four May starts.
The Twins got on the board first as Willi Castro led off the third with a walk. Castro moved to second on an infield grounder and scored on Ryan Jeffers’ single, Minnesota’s first hit of the game.
Twins starter Chris Paddack (2-4) cruised through the first five innings without allowing a run. But RamÃrez — who extended his hitting streak with a fourth-inning single — led off the sixth with another base hit. One out later Paddack walked back-to-back hitters to end his day.
Reliever Louis Varland came on and walked Gabriel Arias to bring home the tying run. Nolan Jones then hit a sacrifice fly to put the Guardians on top 2-1.
Paddack allowed two runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
