One man is dead after a loose wheel hit their vehicle while they were driving on the QEW in St. Catharines on Tuesday.
The wheel came off a pickup truck that was Fort Erie-bound, and went into the Toronto-bound lanes, where the wheel hit the second vehicle. The incident took place justÌýÌýin the Toronto-bound lanes.Ìý
The driver of the struck vehicle, a 53-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, the OPP’s Highway Safety Division Ìý

Police originally said two vehicles were struck by the wheel.
A 52-year-old man who was a passenger in the struck vehicle was taken to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, police said. The 33-year-old driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
All three people involved in the incidentÌýwere confirmed to be U.S citizens, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told the Star. The driver of the pickup truck that lost its wheel is from Niagara Falls, N.Y.
The Fort Erie-bound lanes of the QEW were both reopened Tuesday evening after both lanes were closed for the investigation.
Investigators also confirmed that the 33-year-old man who was driving the pickup truck is charged with having a detached part and operating an unsafe vehicle.Ìý
Those travelling toward º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøwill need to exit at Glendale Avenue in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and will be able to ramp back on at Niagara Street. Those going toward Fort Erie will need to exit at Niagara Street and ramp on just past Welland Avenue.Ìý
