Environment Canada states that heavy downpours may cause flash flooding and significant reductions in visibility.
Environment Canada and Emergency Management Ontario are urging residents to take immediate cover if a thunderstorm approaches. Officials warn that people outdoors should protect themselves from flying debris and hail, and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
Authorities also caution that severe thunderstorms can sometimes produce tornadoes.
