Police initially said the man was stabbed, but , said that he wasn’t stabbed and that his injuries came from being hit with a hard object.

The thieves fled the scene without the vehicle, police added. 

The victim is a man in his 60s, investigators told the Star. He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, paramedics said.

Paramedics said they also assessed a second patient in the incident with minor injuries. That person declined to be taken to hospital.
