Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath went to hospital with multiple injuries after a fall Tuesday afternoon on the stairs outside City Hall.
It happened 鈥渄uring extremely windy conditions,鈥 her office said in a statement Wednesday morning.聽
She is undergoing surgery for a broken wrist, and other injuries 鈥 including an elbow fracture and an injury to her leg 鈥 are being assessed.

Horwath 鈥渨ill be resting and recovering at home for the remainder of the week,鈥 her office added.聽
The mayor鈥檚 office first issued a statement about the accident Tuesday evening.聽
It said Horwath was in 鈥済ood spirits鈥 and in regular communication with her team.
鈥淲e are grateful for the community鈥檚 outpouring of concern and well wishes and will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available,鈥 the office said.聽
Council’s 鈥渢houghts and prayers鈥 are with Horwath 鈥渇or a successful surgery,鈥 Coun. Mike Spadafora said Wednesday morning while chairing general issues committee at city hall.
