Derek Fisher’s run with the Blue Jays official ended on Monday, dealt to the Milwaukee Brewers four days after he was designated for a assignment by Toronto.
The Jays will receive a player to be named later and cash considerations in exchange for the 27-year-old outfielder, the club announced Monday night.
Fisher joined the Jays ahead of the 2019 trade deadline from the Houston Astros, who got right-handers Aaron Sanchez and Joe Biagini and outfield prospect Cal Stevenson in return. At the time, Jays general manager Ross Atkins praised Fisher for his above-average speed, raw power and elite plate discipline.

But the outfielder was never able to find his footing in Toronto. Fisher hit .177 with a .662 OPS in 56 games over two seasons. He also struggled with defensive gaffes, including suffering a facial contusion after misplaying a pop fly in shallow right field that bounce off his cheek in August 2019. And he dealt with injuries in 2020, missing three weeks in August because of a left quad strain and finishing the season on the injured list with a right knee contusion.
Still, Fisher remained on the 40-man roster until last Friday, when he was designated for assignment to make room for reliever David Phelps.
He lasted longer with the Jays than any of the players he was traded for did in Houston. Stevenson was dealt to the Tampa Bay Rays in January 2020, while Biagini signed a minor-league deal with the Chicago Cubs in December. Sanchez has not pitched in a big-league game since August 2019, after shoulder surgery. He is currently a free agent who has reportedly garnered some interest as a reclamation project.
