NEW YORK (AP) 鈥 After more than 11 months and hundreds of singalongs, 鈥淢y Girl鈥 finally has some company atop the charts at Citi Field.
New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, whose pivot to The Temptations鈥 鈥淢y Girl鈥 as his walk-up song last May coincided with a turnaround in fortunes for Lindor and his teammates, added 鈥淎in鈥檛 No Mountain High Enough鈥 鈥 the 1967 duet by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell 鈥 to his rotation prior to his second at-bat in Friday’s 7-2 win over the Chicago Cubs.
鈥淚t鈥檚 the vibes 鈥 the vibes I鈥檓 in right now,鈥 Lindor said with a grin Friday night. 鈥淚 think it鈥檚 a fantastic song. Hopefully the fans can vibe to it, too.鈥

Lindor鈥檚 success with 鈥淢y Girl鈥 and the accompanying pop culture sensation made his pivot a surprise to the 41,243 fans in attendance Friday, if not his teammates.
Lindor was batting .210 and the Mets were 22-30 when he debuted 鈥淢y Girl鈥 last May 28, but Lindor hit .306 the rest of the way and finished second in NL MVP balloting as New York made it to the National League Championship Series. The Temptations performed the song, along with the national anthem, prior to Game 5 of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Lindor hit a leadoff homer for the first-place Mets on Friday 鈥 his 34th round-tripper in 137 games since introducing 鈥淢y Girl.鈥
鈥淭here were some fans that yelled at me,鈥 Lindor said. 鈥淏ut there were some other ones that were singing.鈥
Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, who is walking up to Eric Clapton鈥檚 鈥淟ayla鈥 this year after using Rush鈥檚 鈥淲orking Man鈥 and Don McLean鈥檚 鈥淎merican Pie鈥 in previous seasons, said Lindor hinted at the change during the just-concluded road trip to St. Louis and Arizona.
鈥淗e said he was going to do it and no one believed him,鈥 Alonso said Saturday. 鈥淚 think it鈥檚 a good one 鈥 that鈥檚 a great walk-up song.鈥

Lindor acknowledged some teammates wanted him to stick with 鈥淢y Girl鈥 and said he鈥檇 alternate the songs in hopes his new selection grows in popularity.
鈥淢an, the movie 鈥楻emember The Titans鈥 鈥 who doesn鈥檛 know that?鈥 Lindor said, referring to the song鈥檚 usage in the 2000 film. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a great song. So we鈥檒l see if it catches on. If it doesn鈥檛 catch on 鈥 since I got pushback from some people 鈥 they鈥檙e still going to get 鈥楳y Girl.鈥欌
