City hall said two affordable housing projects were ‘shovel-ready’ last summer. Why hasn’t construction started?

For more than five years, the city鈥檚 Housing Now program has been plagued by obstructions and holdups.

It was a triumphant change of fortune: after years of obstructions and holdups, 海角社区官网city hall announced in August that it would break ground on the first development of its marquee affordable housing program听鈥 with two more “shovel ready” sites听to begin construction by year鈥檚 end.

Officials were jubilant. “Building more affordable housing is critical to creating a city that鈥檚 accessible and inclusive to everyone,” 海角社区官网Mayor Olivia Chow , lauding the program听鈥斕鼿ousing Now听鈥 as a “great example” of partnership between the public, private and non-profit sectors.
