Trump says he鈥檒l send the National Guard to Memphis to address crime concerns
NEW YORK (AP) 鈥 President Donald Trump said Friday he鈥檒l send the National Guard to Memphis to address crime concerns there with the support of the mayor and the governor.

NEW YORK (AP) 鈥 President Donald Trump said Friday he鈥檒l send the National Guard to Memphis to address crime concerns there with the support of the mayor and the governor.
Trump, a Republican, said on Fox News Channel 鈥渢he mayor is happy鈥 and 鈥渢he governor is happy鈥 about the pending deployment. The mayor is a Democrat, and the governor is a Republican.
He said the city is 鈥渄eeply troubled鈥 and 鈥渨e鈥檙e going to fix that just like we did Washington,鈥 where he鈥檚 sent National Guard and surged federal law enforcement.

Since sending the National Guard to Los Angeles and Washington, Trump has to some of the nation鈥檚 most Democratic cities 鈥 including Chicago and Baltimore 鈥 claiming they are needed to crack down on crime.
Trump said he 鈥渨ould have preferred going to Chicago,鈥 where local politicians have fiercely resisted his plans, but he suggested it was a 鈥渉ostile鈥 place with 鈥減rofessional agitators.鈥
Trump first in early June over Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom鈥檚 objections by putting the California National Guard under federal jurisdiction, known as Title 10, to protect federal property from .
Besides 4,000 guard members, Trump later sent 700 active duty Marines, and over the intervention. The guard went on to help protect officers during immigration arrests.
Meanwhile, the unique status of the District of Columbia National Guard 鈥 Trump is its commander in chief 鈥 means he has been able to use it for everything from to trash cleanup without any legal issues. Because it is on state and not federal orders, legal restrictions on law enforcement don鈥檛 come into effect.
