This year’s exercise will involve nearly 200 volunteers from the community, plus airport staff, first responders, and airline and agency partners, Pearson added.

The exercise won’t disrupt flights or passenger services, but people might notice “an increased presence” of first responders on airport grounds, Pearson added.

The annual exercise might evoke memories of February’s Delta Air Lines disaster, which saw a flight carrying 80 people from Minneapolis crash land on Pearson’s runway, injuring 21 people.

The aircraft accident simulation was selected months before the Delta incident, a spokesperson for the airport said.

In 2023, about 400 members of the airport community and volunteers in gory makeup simulated a plane crash response.

At Pearson, the GTAA conducts a 鈥渢able top鈥� yearly to go through a scenario with all parts of the operations, plus a full-scale emergency exercise.
