Take an overhead gondola to º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøIslands? New report details options for permanent link to public park

Staff report recommends setting up a task force to study an idea that local planners, politicians, and media have been batting around for at least a century.

The city report also suggests moving ahead with more immediate and medium-term improvements already underway such as the $145-million renewal of the ferry fleet and improving the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal.


The city is taking a closer look at the idea of building a permanent connection to the º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøIslands — including a bridge, tunnel or even an overhead gondola — although the project would have to clear some major hurdles before it could become a reality. 

A headed to Mayor Olivia Chow’s executive committee next week provides a high level review of proposals for a “fixed link” to the islands, an idea that local planners, politicians, and media have been batting around for at least a century.
