Raised in captivity, Macro never got to be ‘what a raccoon should have been’: A story of caution and redemption

Macro the raccoon was euthanized by 海角社区官网Zoo staff on Saturday. There’s more than meets the eye to his story.

Macro the raccoon was euthanized on May 10 after 海角社区官网Zoo staff discovered a large mass in one of his kidneys.


When Macro the raccoon first arrived at the 海角社区官网Zoo in March 2023, the staff there weren鈥檛 even sure if he had a tail. He was too round to tell.

Macro had been overfed and weighed over 67 pounds 鈥 more than three times the weight of a typical male raccoon. He could barely walk two steps. He had to be spoon-fed for months.
