Stephen Colbert and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker talked tariffs and Mark Carney on The Late Show Monday night after a roller coaster day for markets.
The comedian quipped about the market volatility caused by widespread global tariffs in a Wall Street focused monologue.Â
“The only safe job in Trump’s economy is ‘guy who takes photos of panicked stock brokers,’” Colbert joked.Â

The host later sat down with Booker, a Democrat who recently made headlines for his record breaking 25-hour speech on the Senate floor.
In his marathon address, Booker expressed his frustration with a slew of Trump issues saying that the U.S. was giving up leading the planet and referenced proposals to take over Canada while feuding with longtime allies.
Colbert, speaking in a sombre tone, said that global leaders have been “appalled” by Trump, citing a recent speech by Mark Carney.
“He gave a speech that was heartbreaking but resonant,” the host said.
“At this moment, when these tariffs go up, when Trump makes allies of our enemies, and enemies of our allies, that the United States abdicates its role of leadership in the world, and (Carney) says ‘that is a tragedy but we have to face it,’” Colbert said before asking Booker, “Should they trust us again?”
Booker spoke about the U.S. Declaration of Independence calling it a “declaration of interdependence,” adding that the document represents a “pledge to each other.”Â
“Now more than ever, the civic gospel of America, yes Canada needs it, New Zealand needs it, the world needs it, but it will not be real anywhere until it is real in the hearts of Americans,” Booker said.Â
Booker was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2013. He launched an upbeat but ultimately doomed 2020 bid to run for president in a crowded Democratic field.Â
