Nova Scotia premier defends his government鈥檚 historic $1.2-billion deficit
HALIFAX - Nova Scotia鈥檚 premier is defending his government鈥檚 record $1.2-billion deficit, saying he is focused on growing the economy and making major investments in health care.

HALIFAX - Nova Scotia鈥檚 premier is defending his government鈥檚 record $1.2-billion deficit, saying he is focused on growing the economy and making major investments in health care.
Tim Houston says Nova Scotians shouldn’t be worried about the deficit 鈥 or the fact it’s risen by $697.5-million since February’s budget, a jump of more than 70 per cent.
Instead, they should feel confident their government understands their needs and is willing to invest in them.聽

He would not say if his government is planning to cut spending, only that he is concentrated on the economy.
The premier says he’s particularly excited about the possibility of the Wind West offshore wind project, which could have a 鈥済enerational impact鈥 on the province鈥檚 economy.聽
The official Opposition NDP says government spending has ballooned while Nova Scotians are waiting to see improvement in areas like health care and housing.聽
