Ridly Greig put the Senators on the board 1:45 into the second before Matthew Barbolini bumped Toronto’s lead to 4-1 just under four minutes later.

Arthur Kaliyev, in the second, and Olle Lycksell, in the third, pulled Ottawa within one but that was as close as the home side would get. 

Vyacheslav Peksa made 16 saves on 18 shots for Toronto, while Artur Akhtyamov stopped 16-of-17 shots. Linus Ullmark gave up three goals on eight shots in the opening period for Ottawa, with Mads Sogaard making 11 saves on 12 shots in relief.

The Leafs host the Senators on Tuesday at Scotiabank Centre for the second game of a home-and-home series.

WILD 3 JETS 2 (OT)

WINNIPEG, Man. — Yakov Trenin’s second goal of the game, scored at 3:59 of overtime, gave the visiting Minnesota Wild a 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Winnipeg Jets.

The Jets led 2-1 with under three minutes left in the third period when the Wild’s Hunter Haight scored on the power play to force the extra period.

Morgan Barron and Danil Zhilkin scored first-period goals for the Jets, with Samuel Fagemo assisting on both.

Trenin started the comeback with a goal at 4:23 of the second period.

Wild defenceman David Jiricek was penalized 34 seconds into overtime for tripping the Jets’ Brad Lambert but Winnipeg couldn’t convert on the power play.

The Jets outshot the Wild 23-19, and 4-2 in overtime. Jesper Wallstedt stopped 21 of 23 shots for the Wild, while Isaac Poulter stopped nine of 11 shots and Thomas Milic stopped seven of eight shots for the Jets.

KRAKEN 5 CANUCKS 3

SEATTLE, Wash. — Jani Nyman scored twice and Vince Dunn chipped in with three assists as the Seattle Kraken defeated the visiting Vancouver Canucks 5-3.

Eduard Sale, Jaden Schwartz and John Hayden also scored for the Kraken, who led 1-0 after the first period and 4-2 heading into the third. Kaapo Kakko also chipped in with two assists.

Victor Mancini, Chase Stillman and Nils Aman scored for the Canucks, who went 1-for-6 on the power play. The Kraken were 0-for-2.

Canucks netminder Nikita Tolopilo stopped 13 of 14 shots, while Ty Young stopped six of the 10 shots he faced.

Joey Daccord stopped nine of 11 shots for the Kraken, while Nikke Kokko stopped 13 of the 14 shots directed his way.

FLAMES 3 OILERS 2 (OT)

EDMONTON, Alta. — Morgan Frost’s second goal of the game, scored at 1:07 of overtime, lifted the visiting Calgary Flames’ split squad to a 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place.

Second-period goals by Joel Farabee and Frost gave the Flames a 2-1 lead after Darnell Nurse’s goal in the first period gave the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Matvey Petrov tied it 2-2 with a goal at 18:41 of the second period.

The Oilers outshot the Flames 30-14, but Calgary goalie Ivan Prosvetov stopped 28 shots. Matt Tomkins stopped 11 shots for the Oilers.

The Flames were 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Oilers went 0-for-2.

CALGARY, Alta. — Kasperi Kapanen, Connor Clattenburg and Riley Stillman all scored at Scotiabank Saddledome as the Edmonton Oilers’ split squad blanked the host Calgary Flames 3-0.

Oilers netminders Samuel Johnson (12 saves) and Nathaniel Day (eight saves) combined for the shutout.

Flames netminder Devin Cooley stopped 26 of 29 shots directed his way.

Kapanen gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead at 2:38 of the first period, and Clattenburg made it 2-0 at 8:18 of the third. Stillman scored at 11:47 of the third to give the Oilers the 3-0 lead.

The Flames went 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Oilers were 0-for-2.
