Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment has given permission for the New York Islanders to interview team president Brendan Shanahan, according to Sportsnet. New York has an opening in its front office after the departure of Lou Lamoriello, who took over as the team’s president of hockey operations and general manager after he left º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøin 2018.
The 56-year-old Shanahan has been president of the Leafs for the past 11 years. His contract expires next month.

The Leafs have not made it past the second round of the NHL post-season under his tenure. , the team’s goal this year was to reach the Eastern Conference final, at least.
Under Shanahan’s leadership, the Leafs changed head coaches four times and had three different general managers. MLSE also had three different CEOs in that span.
Born in Etobicoke, Shanahan was drafted second by the New Jersey Devils and had a 21-year playing career in the NHL that included three Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings.
Prior to joining the Leafs in 2014, he worked in the league’s front office for five years as the director of player safety.
