Stay tuned for full analysis from Kevin McGran and Dave Feschuk at the Star. Read our full recap below:
5:15 p.m.: Leafs made best offer for Mikko Rantanen
Just when all the dust on trade deadline day was settling, Star contributing columnist Nick Kypreos had one last surprise for Leafs fans.
Hey Your had the best offer on table for Rantanen today and the refused to take it.
鈥 Nick Kypreos (@RealKyper)
We鈥檒l discuss in detail and so much more on trade deadline day. coming up now with and 5-7pm est
He followed up that post on his “Real Kyper and Bourne” show on Sportsnet by saying that the Leafs offered the Hurricanes top prospects Easton Cowan, Fraser Minten plus two first-round picks for Rantanen.
According to Kypreos, the Hurricanes preferred to send Rantanen to the Western Conference to avoid a potential early meeting in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Kypreos added that the Leafs were willing to sign Rantanen to an eight-year deal in the range of $105-$110 million, which would be more than the $12-million annual salary he agreed to in Dallas.
4:25 p.m.: Berube on Laughton, Carlo
Leafs coach Craig Berube spoke to reporters in Denver, including the Star’s Kevin McGran, about his team’s deadline acquisitions.

4:20 p.m.: Flyers will miss Scott Laughton
Flyers GM Danny Briere spoke to the media in Philadelphia Friday afternoon and spoke glowingly of Scott Laughton, who was traded to the Leafs. Quotes below are courtesy of ’s Adam Kimelman.
“This trade is as tough as they come for me personally and professionally. Scott was an integral part of our team for a long time and it was a great pleasure to see him grow into the teammate and leader that he is.
“Scott not only brought back the standard of what it means to be a Philadelphia Flyer, he led the way and set a precedent for our organization moving forward. On the ice, he was as formidable and competitive as they come.
“Off the ice, I don’t think I have seen anyone who was as kind, generous and welcoming to the hockey and Philadelphia community.鈥
3:55 p.m.: Carlo ready to help Leafs win
Brandon Carlo, acquired by the Leafs from Boston, told TSN that he was shocked when he first heard he was heading to a Bruins rival.
“Definitely a shock when I heard it’s Toronto,” he said. “What an opportunity for me to go in there and help this group win.”
3:45 p.m.: Senators get Fabian Zetterlund
The Ottawa Senators traded for promising 25-year-old Sharks winger Fabian Zetterlund.
Zetterlund has 17 goals and 19 assists this season and his plus-8 mark easily leads the Sharks, who have a league-worst minus-72 goal differential this season.
Heading to San Jose are depth forward Noah Gregor, prospect Zack Ostapchuk and a 2025 second-round pick. Ottawa will also receive Tristen Robins and fourth-round pick.
3:30 p.m.: Leafs, Bruins trade taking shape
For Carlo, top prospect Fraser Minten and a top-10 protected first-round draft pick will go to Boston with the Pittsburgh Penguins as the middle-men to retain some of Carlo鈥檚 $4.1-million salary. The Leafs sent Connor Dewar and Conor Timmins to the Penguins.
3:12 p.m.: Leafs add defenceman Carlo
The Maple Leafs have acquired Brandon Carlo from the Boston Bruins, insider Chris Johnston reports.
Carlo, 28, is a six-foot-five, right-handed stay-at-home defenceman with two more seasons at $4.1 million left on his deal.
More to come.
3:07 p.m.: Marchand is a Florida Panther
In a stunning turn of events, the Boston Bruins are trading captain Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers, according to multiple reports, but first floated by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
The move is significant for Maple Leafs fans as they try to compete with the Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning for the Atlantic Division title.
The return for Marchand remains unclear.
3 p.m.: Marchand to Florida?!
Just as the clock struck 3 p.m. ET and the trade deadline arrived, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Freidman posted the most surprising statement of the day on X: “Last minute possibility: Hearing Brad Marchand could be traded to Florida.”
More to come.
2:55 p.m.: Penguins trade Glass for pick
The Pittsburgh Penguins continued to sell on Friday, sending centre Cody Glass to the New Jersey Devils for a third-round draft pick.
2:51 p.m.: Vegas teasing a trade?
It’s been weirdly quiet in Vegas, a team known for taking big swings on the trade front in its short NHL history.
The official Golden Knights account on X left many hockey fans wondering if a last minute deal is coming when it simply wrote “hi” on the social media platform, 12 minutes before the 3 p.m. deadline.

2:38 p.m.: Stars lock in Johnston
The Dallas Stars have reached a contract extension with one of their core pieces, according to multiple reports.
Wyatt Johnston, 21, was set to be a restricted free agent this summer but instead signed a five-year extension for $8.4 million per season.
The 23rd overall pick in 2021 has 23 goals and 59 points this season.
2:35 p.m.: Leafs practice in Denver
As the trade deadline nears, everyone is accounted for at Maple Leafs practice ahead of Saturday night’s game against the Avalanche.

2:19 p.m.: Blackhawks, Wings make minor trade
The Chicago Blackhawks are trading goaltender Petr Mrazek and centre Craig Smith to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for 25-year-old centre Joe Veleno.
The Red Wings, despite losing four in a row, are firmly in the Eastern Conference wild-card race.聽
2:07 p.m.: Reaves clears waivers
Maple Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves has cleared waivers.
海角社区官网can now bury $1.15 million of his salary, Sportsnet’s Luke Fox said on X.
With one hour to go before the 3 p.m. trade deadline, it’s unclear if GM Brad Treliving will make another move after acquiring centre Scott Laughton earlier.
2:03 p.m.: Bruins, Avalanche make swap
The Boston Bruins are trading centre Charlie Coyle to the Colorado Avalanche, as first reported by Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic.
According to multiple reports, Avs forward Casey Mittelstadt, prospect Will Zellers and a 2025 second-round pick are heading to Boston while a 2026 fifth-round pick also goes to Colorado.
Coyle, 33, has 22 points this season and one more year left on his deal at $5.25 million. Mittelstadt, 26, has 34 points this season and two more seasons at $5.75 million聽on his contract.
1:54 p.m.: Blue Jackets add Luke Kunin
The Columbus Blue Jackets, in the thick of the wild-card chase in the East, added some centre depth by acquiring 27-year-old Luke Kunin from the San Jose Sharks, according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun.
Kunin has 11 goals and seven assists this season.聽
1:23 p.m.: Rantanen trade details emerge
Details on the Mikko Rantanen blockbuster (2.0) are starting to take shape.
Jeff Marek first reported the return of 22-year-old forward Logan Stankoven and two first-round picks for Carolina as the Stars get Rantanen with an eight-year extension in place. ESPN’s Emily Kaplan reports the Hurricanes will also get a pair of third-round picks.
Frank Seravelli says there will be smaller pieces added to the Hurricanes’ side of the deal.
1:20 p.m.: How Laughton changes the Leafs
The acquisition of Scott Laughton changes the makeup of the Maple Leafs and gives them more flexibility, says Kevin McGran.
Laughton changes the makeup. Does Holmberg remain LW2? Can Domi thrive as RW3? Is Robertson odd man out?

1:10 p.m.: Jets continue to add
Shortly after acquiring Luke Schenn from Pittsburgh, the Winnipeg Jets brought in forward Brandon Tanev from the Seattle Kraken.
Tanev, who played parts of four seasons with the Jets between 2015 and 2019, has nine goals and eight assists this season. The Jets sent a second-round pick to Seattle in return.
12:50 p.m.: Leafs trade for Scott Laughton
The Maple Leafs acquired centre Scott Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers.
Laughton cost the Leafs prospect Nikita Grebenkin and a top-10 protected 2027 first-round pick. The Leafs received a fourth-round and sixth-round pick with the Flyers retaining half of Laughton鈥檚 $3-million (U.S.) salary. Laughton is signed for next year as well.
Laughton had been connected as a potential trade target for GM Brad Treliving leading up to the deadline. Here’s what Kevin McGran wrote about the Leafs’ new third-line centre on Thursday:
The 30-year-old from Oakville plays a physical, two-way game. He doesn鈥檛 put up a lot of points. But he is on the Flyers鈥 top power-play unit and he kills penalties. He is a big enough body at six-foot-one, and has a cap hit of $3 million (U.S.) that carries into next season. He would likely settle in as the Leafs鈥 third-line centre. It has been a while since Laughton has been in the playoffs, but he had five goals and four assists in 15 post-season games in 2020. Scoring in the playoffs is something the Leafs really need.
“It’s pretty surreal right now, trying to let it all sink in,” Laughton said on TSN’s TradeCentre show. “I’m excited for the opportunity and ready to go.”
12:44 p.m.: Leafs short on draft picks
With just over two hours to go until the trade deadline, the Leafs have yet to make a move.
This trade season is being called a “seller’s market” by experts, with rental players costing significant draft capital for buying teams.
Kevin McGran notes that the Leafs are short on draft capital, and with the way the market is going, a future first-round pick is likely on the table.
The Leafs don't have a lot of draft capital. This year, they have picks in the second, third, fifth, sixth and seventh rounds. It wouldn't be out of the question to trade their first-round picks in 2026 or 2027

12:40 p.m.: Dubas flips Luke Schenn to Jets
After acquiring Luke Schenn from the Nashville Predators on Wednesday, Penguins GM Kyle Dubas flipped the veteran defenceman to the Winnipeg Jets before the deadline, reports say.
Schenn was first brought in by Pittsburgh along with centre Tommy Novak in exchange for winger Michael Bunting and a fourth-round pick.
The Jets, who lead the Western Conference, traded second- and fourth-round picks for Schenn on Friday, according to insider Chris Johnston.
12:30 p.m.: Rantanen sweepstakes ending 鈥 again
The Mikko Rantanen saga appears to be over.
After Star contributing columnist Nick Kypreos reported that the Carolina Hurricanes and Dallas Stars made significant strides on a trade this afternoon, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said that a contract extension is imminent.聽
Friedman reports the Stars and Rantanen are closing in on an eight-year deal worth $12 million per season.
The terms of the trade are unclear.
12:25 p.m.: Ryan O’Reilly not interested in Leafs, Friedman says
In 2023, the Leafs traded for Ryan O’Reilly at the deadline and tried to re-sign him the ensuing off-season, but the Ontario-born centre decided to head to Nashville instead.
With the Predators out of playoff contention and the Leafs in need of centre depth, O’Reilly was said to be a possible trade target for GM Brad Treliving.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman says the former Leaf wouldn’t be interested in a reunion.
Elliotte Friedman recently on Ryan O'Reilly and the Maple Leafs.
鈥 Kevin McGran (@kevin_mcgran)
"Toronto, as a matter of fact, looked into O'Reilly, and they were told he didn't really have an interest in that reunion."
12:15 p.m.: Kings add Kuzmenko
The Los Angeles Kings are acquiring 29-year-old winger Andrei Kuzmenko from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a third-round pick, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
Kuzmenko has six goals and 14 assists in 44 games this season. The Kings currently hold the third playoff spot in the Pacific Division.
12 p.m.: Is Rantanen a Leafs free agent target?
TSN’s Bob McKenzie says that if the Hurricanes are unable to move Rantanen in a sign-and-trade deal today and he ends up in free agency, the Leafs and Panthers are teams he might be interested in when free agency opens on July 1.
“Don’t sleep on 海角社区官网and Florida as teams Rantanen would look favourably at in free agency,” McKenzie said on TSN’s TradeCentre show.
11:55 a.m.: No one needs Brad Marchand more than Leafs, Weekes says
It’s hard to picture notorious Leafs rival Brad Marchand wearing the blue-and-white, but NHL insider Kevin Weekes says that no NHL team needs the Bruins captain more than Toronto.聽
As I mentioned a month ago on ahead of ; no team needs Marchand more than . He鈥檚 a winner, and they could use his big time Playoff experience.
鈥 Kevin Weekes (@KevinWeekes)
Marchand, 37, is on an expiring contract with Boston and has been unable to agree to terms on a new deal, according to multiple reports. He has an eight-team no-trade clause in his contract.
The former Stanley Cup champion has played in 157 playoff games 鈥 many of them against 海角社区官网鈥 while spending his entire career in Boston.
11:40 a.m.: Will the Leafs turn to Brayden Schenn?
All is quiet on the Maple Leafs front 鈥 at least publicly 鈥 with just over three hours to go until the 3 p.m. ET deadline.
One name that has been linked to the Leafs remains available 鈥 but the cost is high.
On Thursday, Star contributing columnist Nick Kypreos wrote about the Leafs’ interest in Schenn, how Blues president and GM Doug Armstrong was asking for too much in return for his captain and why the cost could go down as the deadline nears.
Read the column from Kypreos here:聽As NHL trade deadline nears, Brayden Schenn could still fit with Leafs. But at that asking price?
11:35 a.m.: Kyle Dubas adds draft pick
The Pittsburgh Penguins traded forward Anthony Beauvillier to the Washington Capitals for a second-round pick in 2025.
Beauvillier, 27, has 13 goals and seven assists this season.聽
11:30 a.m.: Rantanen contract talks in ‘stalemate’
The clock is ticking for the Hurricanes to trade Rantanen’s expiring deal.
After TSN’s Darren Dreger reported earlier that the Stars were willing to offer Rantanen $12 million per season in a sign-and-trade, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman says progress has still not been made.
On Rantanen: "stalemate" in contract negotiations as it stands. In a holding pattern. We will see.
鈥 Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC)
11:22 a.m.: Reflecting on the Ryan Reaves signing
The Leafs placed Ryan Reaves on waivers Thursday, on the eve of the NHL trade deadline. That means an extra $1.15-million (U.S.) of cap space if he goes unclaimed, or the full $1.35-million if another team takes him. At the trade deadline, on a still-top-heavy team, every dollar could count.
Star columnist Bruce Arthur wrote about Reaves’ three-year deal in Toronto, his impact on the ice and in the room and what might be next for the longtime enforcer.
Read the column here:聽Ryan Reaves has carved out a remarkable hockey life, but he has always been a luxury the Leafs can鈥檛 afford
11:15 a.m.: Senators add Cozens
According to multiple reports, the Ottawa Senators are acquiring centre Dylan Cozens from the Buffalo Sabres.
Star contributing columnist Nick Kypreos later reported the full details of the trade: Cozens, defenceman Dennis Gilbert and a second-round pick in 2026 go to Ottawa while forwards Josh Norris and Jacob Bernard-Docker head to Buffalo.
Cozens, 24, has 11 goals and 20 assists this season while Norris, 25, has 20 goals and 13 assists.
After a slow start to the year, the Senators have climbed into the second wild-card spot in the East. It’s a tight race for the two wild-card spots with the Sens, Blue Jackets, Rangers, Red Wings and Canadiens all within two points of each other.
11 a.m.: Rantanen on the move again?
Carolina Hurricanes winger Mikko Rantanen might be traded again after being acquired from the Colorado Avalanche weeks ago.
The Canes are in search of a sign-and-trade deal to maximize a return, according to reports. The latest in this fast-moving saga appears to be that the Dallas Stars have made a big push to acquire Rantanen, but have been unable to agree to a contract extension.
More from TSN’s Darren Dreger here:聽
See where it goes, but I鈥檓 confident the Dallas Stars are/were willing to go to upwards of $12 million per to extend Rantanen. A big number for the Stars given contract challenges moving forward. Unless something changes, that鈥檚 well short.
鈥 Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger)
On Feb. 27, Star contributing columnist Nick Kypreos wrote about why the Leafs should make a push for Rantanen. Read the column here:聽

10:50 p.m.: Does Treliving believe in his group?
With four hours to go to the trade deadline and the Leafs yet to make a move, Kevin McGran wonders what the Leafs GM thinks about the high prices teams are paying to improve.
“The trade deadline prices seem very high,” McGran wrote on X. “We鈥檒l see if Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving wants to pay them 鈥 If he doesn鈥檛, what does that say about his faith in this team?”
10:40 a.m.: Leafs鈥 NHL trade deadline targets
With the Florida Panthers adding defenceman Seth Jones from Chicago, and the Tampa Bay Lightning putting the band back together by reacquiring Yanni Gourde from Seattle along with Oliver Bjorkstrand, the focus is now on how the Leafs will respond.
The Star’s Kevin McGran looks at who the Leafs could be targeting, from centre Scott Laughton of the Flyers to a reunion with defenceman Luke Schenn from the Penguins.

10:30 a.m.: Avalanche take potential Leafs target off the board
The Colorado Avalanche made a big splash on the eve of the NHL trade deadline late Thursday night by getting centre Brock Nelson, who had been listed as a trade target for the Leafs, from the New York Islanders.
The move came hours after the Western Conference rival Vegas Golden Knights reacquired winger Reilly Smith in a deal with the New York Rangers. Much of the action came in the East, where New Jersey added defenceman Brian Dumoulin in a deal with Anaheim, Florida got depth centre Nico Sturm from San Jose, and the Rangers also bought acquired defenceman Carson Soucy from Vancouver.
Colorado sent defenceman Oliver Kylington, prospect Calum Ritchie, a 2026 first-round pick and a conditional third-rounder in 2028 to the Islanders for Nelson and 23-year-old winger William Dufour. Nelson, a pending unrestricted free agent, was considered one of the top players available. The Islanders almost immediately traded Kylington to Anaheim for future considerations.
