With an increasingly erratic Donald Trump back in the White House, Prime Minister Mark Carney faces unprecedented relations with our southern neighbour. Should he navigate the relationship skilfully, he could emerge as one of the countries greatest politicians.

Prime Minister Mark Carney鈥檚 meeting with President Donald Trump comes amidst the president鈥檚 renewed annexation threats, as well as his announcement on Truth Social of an impending 100 per cent tariff on foreign produced movies. If the latter comes to fruition, it will devastate the Canadian film industry.

Carney, for his part, enters the meeting with a mandate from Canadian voters to be tough on Trump and defend the nation鈥檚 interests in the face of American belligerence. Yet if he takes too strong a position, he risks aggravating Trump and provoking increased hostility.
