Florida governor Ron DeSantis鈥檚 presidential campaign was off to an inauspicious start on Wednesday after the initial Twitter space where he was to make his announcement became riddled with technical issues.
The first Twitter space, hosted by DeSantis, tech mogul Elon Musk and entrepreneur David Sacks, regularly cut out and kicked out attendees, with multiple had crashed their whole phones.
鈥淲e have got so many people here that I think we are melting the servers, which is a good sign,鈥 Sacks could be heard saying. At one point, the space had attracted over half a million listeners. Musk added the 鈥渟ervers are straining somewhat.鈥

When Sacks spoke, he was repeatedly interrupted by his audio cutting out or echoing. After 20 minutes of mostly silence, the space abruptly ended without DeSantis announcing his presidential campaign.
Eventually, Musk launched another Twitter space from Sacks鈥檚 account, explaining that hosting it from his own account 鈥渂roke the Twitter system.鈥 This space, despite drawing in a fraction of the listeners, ran far smoother and allowed DeSantis to announce his bid half an hour late.
, tweeting from the president鈥檚 official account: 鈥淭his link works鈥 with an attached link to donate to his own presidential bid. Donald Trump, anticipated to be DeSantis鈥檚 main opponent in the Republican primaries, also launched his own on his official Instagram.
Meanwhile, the keyword DeSantis almost immediately began trending on Twitter, with scores of users complaining about the glitches and crashes.
