A piece of º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøStar history might soon be turned to dust.Â
A demolition permit for the historic º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøStar building at 1 Yonge Street was accepted by the city on Dec. 4, Toronto’s building permit database shows.
It’s been nearly two years since the Star moved its offices from its home of 51 years at One Yonge to The Well, the sprawling development at Spadina Avenue and Front Street.
On top and around the Star’s old haunt, developers hope to build a megaproject that will include one of the tallest skyscrapers in the city and two other towers that will be home to condos, a hotel, offices and retail. The two-block project had two proposed developments, a cluster of three towers of 105, 92, and 65 storeys as well as office developments along Queens Quay and Yonge Street, where the Star’s old office building stands.
The original plan was to build one tower of the project as an addition to the old 25-storey º£½ÇÉçÇø¹ÙÍøStar building.
Pinnacle, the developer of the project and the owner of the One Yonge office building, did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and a timeline for the demolition is unclear. According to the who worked on the project, the plan is to reclad old Star office building and construct two new adjacent office towers.
Two of the three towers, the “Sky Tower” (105 storeys) and the Phase Three development of 1 Yonge (92 storeys), join several other super tall skyscrapers being constructed in Toronto, set to dramatically change the city’s skyline. They include: a 99-storey tower at 19 Bloor St. W.; the troubled condo project, The One (85 storeys); Forma West Tower (84 storeys), Union Park East Tower on Front Street West (58 storeys), both near Yonge Street and Queens Quay, and 191 Bay Street near King Street (64 storeys).
